Biographies
MIKE PROWSE - is responsible for managing Global Marine’s business activities in the offshore renewable energy market and has worked in the subsea cable industry for over 10 years. Having covered a wide range of commercial and strategic roles in the telecommunications cable business line, he was ideally placed to use that knowledge to help Global Marine to diversify into the emerging renewable energy sector. He has helped position the company as the market leading cable installer with a reputation as a reliable and professional service provider. With experience from both Horns Rev, and more recently, Kentish Flats offshore wind farm projects he has an in depth understanding of the lessons Global Marine has learnt about cable installation on these operations. Mike strongly believes that the key to success in this young market is open and honest communications in order to develop a spirit of partnership between customers and contractors.
PETER COUTTS - Current role;- AMEC project Manager for Beatrice Windfarm Demononstrator project. AMEC role is project management and Detail design for the Demonstrator project.
Background: Sea Going Marine Engineer (10 years), Shipbuilding (3 years), Staff Engineer for major North Sea Operator (13 years), AMEC for 9 years in various senior project management roles.
DAVE CHAPLIN - is an Inspector with the Offshore Safety Division which is part of the Hazardous Industries Division of the HSE. He has amongst other duties, the focal point responsibility for Offshore renewable energy systems in HSE.
Dave is a Chartered Engineer. In his life, he has been a marine chief engineer, a senior marine surveyor, and is one of the few Department of Energy Inspectors left that were moved over to the HSE after the Piper Alpha disaster.
He has been involved with the British Wind Energy Association in the production of the last two editions of the Guidance Notes for health and safety.
MICHAEL STARLING - is a Chartered Engineer. He was educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh and Southampton University where he studied Mechanical Engineering. In a varied career he has worked for Ferranti, the European Centre for High Energy Physics (CERN), Marconi, BP and been self employed prior to joining British Maritime Technology. He has worked for BMT since 1990. He has 14 years experience in Reliability, Safety and Risk where he has worked on major projects in Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Railways, and Shipping. After 3 years leading the application of Reliability Assurance in the Energy Sector he is currently working on projects supporting the assessment of navigation around offshore wind farms and the economics of offshore wind farm design, installation, operation and support.
HUGH WILLIAMS - is Chief Executive of IMCA - the International Marine Contractors Association which represents offshore marine and underwater engineering companies.
He is a chartered civil engineer with wide experience including:
- commercial management and business development for marine contractors Heerema,
- commercial and engineering management with design work and marine warranty survey for consultants Noble Denton and Global Maritime,
- ports and harbours design office and site work with engineering consultants Rendel Palmer and Tritton.
