EG&S KTN Workshop - 18th May
Installation, moorings, cable protection and connectors all play a vital role in successful wave and tidal power projects. So even before All-Energy officially gets under way, the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network (EG&S KTN) and RenewableUK, in conjunction with Narec, Subsea UK, The Society for Underwater Technology and the organisers of All-Energy 2010, will hold a half day workshop at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 18 May to discuss and debate these key elements.

The workshop was aimed at both the wave and tidal industry and the oil and gas sector and designed to investigate, discuss and start on the road to developing tangible proposals. Workshops were ‘round table’events with the facilitator capturing key findings that were presented in the final session of the day and covered in the All-Energy Wave and Tidal conference stream on 20 May.
The organisers of All-Energy 2011 are already in touch with the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network about similar workshops at/prior to All-Energy 2011.
RenewableUK Connect - 18th May
For more information about this excellent event please visit www.bwea.com/BWEAConnect/may2010.html or contact or contact Clare Daly, RenewableUK Membership Manager - c.daly@renewable-uk.com - and yes, there will be a repeat in 2011.
Business Breakfast hosted by AGCC - 19th May
The traditional Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce renewables Business Breakfast took place early on the morning of 19 May (there is a charge for attending). Contact Clare Henry or Lesley McHardy on +44 (0)1224 343901/343922 or email events@agcc.co.uk for more information.
UKTI Business Briefings - throughout the show
This year’s All-Energy is being held ‘in association’ with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the Government organisation which helps UK companies succeed in the global economy.
Throughout the two days of the event The UK Energy Excellence Centre (Room 23) will host a series of free Roundtable Market Briefings. This is your opportunity to learn about developments and opportunities in a range of exciting international markets including USA, China, India, South Korea and Brazil. The Centre will also host UKTI Energy Specialists from across the globe who will be available to meet with your company to discuss how UKTI can help you realise your international potential. You will be able to learn more about the events by visiting the UKTI stand, B42.
UKTI will sponsor a large delegation of international companies to visit All-Energy. These delegates will be introduced to the UK’s Renewable Energy Offer during a short tour of selected sites and companies prior to All-Energy. At the show these companies will be invited to meet with UK companies in carefully constructed one-to-one (speed networking) sessions. For more information or to register your interest go to http://www.uktienergyevents.com/UKTIAllEnergy2010/, email allenergy@uktienergyevents.com or call +44 (0)115 947 5666.
Civic Reception/Giant Networking Evening - 19th May
BOYD ORR HALL
Networking is a vital component of All-Energy. ‘Happy Hour’ is encouraged on stands throughout the exhibition during the final hour of business on Wednesday 19 May and then leads into the ‘welcome reception’ a Civic Reception hosted by Aberdeen City Council and held in AECC’s Boyd Orr Hall. This in turn leads seamlessly into the All-Energy Giant Networking Evening, which 'does what it says on the tin’. It is ‘Giant’, with over a thousand traditionally taking part, and its prime aim is networking. There is food and a cash bar operates once the Civic Reception has come to an end, and there is participatory entertainment to help forge new relationships in a relaxed (and sometimes unusual) atmosphere, and networking tables where conversations started in conference sessions and on stands can continue. Make sure it is firmly on your plan for your time at All-Energy!
International Brokerage Event - 20th May:
Enterprise Europe Scotland, in partnership with SDI, held an International Brokerage Event on 20 May 2010. The event was free to attend and proved an ideal opportunity for those attending All-Energy (and others) to make the most of business development opportunities through quick and focused, pre-booked business meetings.
Companies booked 30-minute meetings in advance of the brokerage event through an online catalogue and booking system. This speed-dating type approach gave enough time to scope out potential opportunities and see if they would like to take things further. The event was structured to enable companies to make the most of their time and potential opportunities. It proved an ideal platform for delegates to find new partners to license technology in or out, new R&D, business services or products to offer and/ or source to do business together.
Education Day - 20th May
All-Energy worked with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, the Energy Institute and Society of Petroleum Engineers on an Education Day at the 2010 show. This took place on Thursday 20 May.
Invitees from both the Shire and the City included subject-specialist teachers from secondary and primary schools and career guidance experts. Broadly speaking the day comprised an overall briefing session for the teachers/careers experts; the opportunity for them to visit the exhibition (with themed trails designed to represent their particular interests – e.g. biology teachers wanted to learn about bioenery; others wanted to know about different elements of renewables; and some were eager to hear from those running after-school engineering clubs); themed ‘round tables’ with experts on particular topics providing information and answering their questions – and no doubt posing some of their own; there was a debrief when both the City and Shire education experts will soak up feedback.
Yes, Education Day will be repeated in 2011.
The All-Energy Education Day is sponsored by ECITB click here to read about their work
Mersey Marine Energy Innovation Centre Workshop - 19th May
11:30 -12:30
IT Power, working for Envirolink Northwest and the NWDA, have been assessing the feasibility of developing a marine energy innovation centre in the Mersey Estuary and wider Liverpool Bay area. This region could provide locations for testing a wide variety of wind, wave and tidal technologies as well as marine systems, environmental effects and operational procedures.
This open workshop will summarise the findings of the study and seek feedback and input from stakeholders. This will substantiate any assumptions made, confirm that the facility will fulfil a need, and allow for constructive feedback and refinement going into a more detailed feasibility study.
UK/Korea Renewable Energy R&D Seminar - 19th May
14.30-17.30
The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) and UK Embassy Seoul, Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) held a seminar on the afternoon of Wednesday 19 May at AECC “Finding R&D collaboration opportunities between UK and Korea companies/ institutions/universities in renewable energy areas”.
